Jana + Michael | Wedding

If you've been following my personal Facebook page lately, you probably have seen that I have been on a bit of a health kick. That will never discount the fact, though, that I LOVE CAKE. Some of my dearest friends are not cake people but I really do love it all, the cake and the frosting...especially the frosting. One of the saddest parts for me (just kidding, sort of) is going to weddings and photographing all these beautiful cakes and never eating any of them! In all seriousness, though, it is so fun to see what cake style the bride and groom end up going with because I've found it usually is a good reflection of their personality as a couple.

I have been thinking about Jana and Michael's cake non-stop since their wedding last Friday.

I love this cake because it is effortlessly beautiful. It doesn't look like it is even trying that hard to be beautiful, it just IS. The colors, the way the flowers are placed, the fact that the frosting itself showcases the imperfections in the frosting (aka it's not super smooth). The cake itself was not the centerpiece of the reception area. It did have a special place, but it was off to the side so everyone could mingle in the middle.

What I love most about it, though, is that it represents Jana and Michael so well. They are the best of friends, having met early on in college and being inseparable ever since. These two have been through ups and downs together and it's clear they're stronger because of it. One thing that stood out to me on their wedding day was that even though the day was about them and celebrating their love, they were just as excited to spend the day surrounded by their close family and friends.

And, just like their cake, the whole day was beautiful and non-assuming. They both got ready at Michael's parents' house, chatting and laughing with their closest friends. Even when it threatened to rain (and that lovely PNW mist), they barely batted an eye and brought our photo session inside...and played video games instead. It was a day filled to the brim with love and I am so honored to have been part of it.

When putting together the preview, it was difficult to narrow down the photos to share! Here are just a few favorite snaps from their wedding day:

Thank you, Jana and Michael, for asking me to photograph such an important day in your lives! Hope the photos make you smile. :) I can't wait to share the rest with you.
